Assessing Mumbai’s Slums: A Comprehensive WASH Survey by Auxilium Nisarg Mitra

Auxilium Nisarg Mitra, the environmental wing of Auxilium Skills Academy, conducted a thorough Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) baseline survey in 10 slums of Mumbai from February 17 to February 24, 2024. The survey aimed to evaluate the existing WASH conditions, household practices, and infrastructure in these communities, with the goal of identifying areas for intervention to enhance WASH outcomes. The survey employed a multi-stage sampling technique and involved a structured questionnaire to collect data on water sources, sanitation facilities, hygiene practices, and socio-demographic characteristics of respondents. Additionally, drinking water quality tests were conducted by an authorized laboratory. A team of 34 NSS volunteers from Mumbai University, trained in data collection and research ethics, conducted door-to-door surveys, engaging with over 2000 households across the 10 slums.
